Wow! Isn’t 2012 going quickly? I can’t believe we’re in April already and even that is whizzing by! April has been a crazy busy month with markets and pop-ups and making new things! Here are a few of the things I have been and will be involved in this month.
New Necklace Styles
For the past couple of months I have been working on some new wintery styles of necklaces that feature 18 hand formed beads on an 80cm plaited leather cord. I have around 6 styles to choose from and they will be available for purchase at Finders Keepers and SO:ME Space as well as my online shop here.
Finders Keepers Melbourne
This Friday night and Saturday I am going to have a stall at the Finders Keepers Winter Market at the Royal Exhibition Building. I am going to be sitting next to my buddy Indie Laden from Monolog (who amongst other gorgeous things will be selling her awesome new neon screen-printed leggings!) so pop on by and say hello, it’s going to be a great couple of days of great Australian craft and design.

Modern Times Pop-Up Shop #3
Also this month I have my wares in the Modern Times Pop Up number 3 on Smith St. Joel and Amy have curated another gorgeous mix of vintage scandinavian furniture and contemporary artists and designers. At the last pop-up in December Louis couldn’t resist purchasing a lovely danish drawer chest (see daggy photo below). I’ve included the press release below for some more info. Definitely pop in for a look, it’s going to be awesome!
Modern Times Pop-Up Shop #3 will be housing itself in a space that needs to be seen to be believed. A huge multi level space with soaring ceilings, in Smith St, Collingwood, will be filled with Modern Times’ signature mix of mid-century furniture from Denmark combined with contemporary Australian art and design.
Husband and wife duo, Amy and Joel Malin, have cast the net even further afield this time, to source contemporary art and design from all over Australia including works on paper, textiles, ceramics, jewellery, glass and handmade leather accessories. The total number of artists involved this time is around fifty. “It’s a long way from the seven or eight we had at the first Modern Times Pop-Up Shop” Joel recalls.
Original art features on the walls at Modern Times. “The selection of work represents a visual variety but they all have a place amongst the
mid-century\modernist aesthetic“, says Amy. Works include meticulous graphic compositions in pastel by Julian Martin, tapestries by Tim Gresham, photo media collages by Liesl Pfeffer and striking neon screenprints by Kate Banazi.
Albeit the impressive art, mid-century Danish furniture is still the main focus for Modern Times and new pieces include the masculine form of the Inca Chair by Arne Norell, the Hans Wegner GE236 sofa and many classic Danish leather sofas. “Arne Norell was actually a Swedish designer, but like Danish Modern design, Swedish Modern shared the same respect for functionality, natural materials and craftsmanship.”
Amy and Joel arrange the space in a way that feels homely and inviting. “We encourage our customers to sit on the sofas and take in the pieces and the space, there are so many lovely things and we like to make it feel like a great big living space”
Modern Times Pop-Up Shop 3 opens April 21st.

Other pop-up stall holders include:Douglas and Hope and Hobes shoes as well as the permanent stall holders including Mr Simple, Asuza and One Little Piggie.
Beattie and I will be at SO:ME Space until the 6th of May

That’s it from me for the m0ment! Beads to roll! x em
Wow, it has been a big break from blog world and I have been missing it very much! The main reason I have been so absent is that we don’t have and internet connection at home at the moment (grrrrr!) and after a very hefty bill from my mobile company as punishment for tethering my phone to the computer, I have had to take a bit of an internet diet. I am however, currently indulging in an internet binge at my lovely friend Jade’s house so that I can put up a few new necklaces that I’ve made recently.

Welcome
Hello! My name is Emily Green and I am a Melbourne based designer who makes artworks and accessories that explore colour, chaotic geometric shapes and soft, organic forms. My designs are inspired by my love of colour and the aesthetic of Melbourne’s inner north. At present, I work from my studio in the Nicholas Building in the Melbourne CBD, where each of the pieces in my collection were designed and handmade.Purchase my work from my Big Cartel Store here
